Six dead in a shooting in Chicago; a suspect is detained

During a parade celebrating the American Independence Day, a shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, close to Chicago (Illinois, USA), resulted in at least six fatalities and 26 injuries. A suspect was taken into custody.

On July 4th, when the village of Highland Park, Illinois, north of Chicago, was enjoying American Independence Day, gunfire broke out. To watch the procession that had been planned for the occasion, hundreds of people had assembled. Six deaths and 26 injuries are listed as the most recent death toll. The investigation's findings indicated that the shooter had set up shop on a building's roof in order to fire at the gathering and create fear. One partygoer told a reporter, "We heard around 50 bullets."

The guy, who was carrying a heavy firearm, then took off.

Numerous police officers were searching for the suspect, Robert Crimo, also known as Bobby, who was quickly identified. He was 22 years old and "from the region." With the help of federal soldiers and armored vehicles, the authorities had set up a sizable security system.

The young male was ultimately apprehended "without incident" following a chase, according to Lou Jogmen, the Highland Park police chief, who made the announcement on Monday evening.
The holiday season has been put on hold, including in the townships near Highland Park.

The shooting has rekindled the conversation about guns, a significant problem in the US. US President Joe Biden declared himself "shocked" and vowed to keep up the battle against gun violence.
